Itinerary
Our guide will meet you at your hotel at 9:00 A.M. Start your tour by visiting the Kendriya Mahadev temple. This temple is 31m high and is the largest and most typical Khajuraho temple. The work on this temple is worth praising. Some of the pieces of work include exquisite carvings, intricate details, craftsmanship in stone, divine deities, celestial maidens, eternal lovers, gods and goddesses. This place enshrines the 'linga' and is dedicated to Hindu Lord Shiva.
After this temple, proceed to Chaunsath Yogini temple. This is one of the oldest temples in India. It was built around 900 A.D. and is dedicated to Goddess Kali. Then visit Chitragupta Temple which is dedicated to Surya Dev( God of the sun according to Hindu mythologies). This temple faces towards east. It faces towards east or the rising sun and the imposing image of the image of the deity in the inner sanctum is as high as five feet and is shown driving a horse-drawn chariot. The dance of Khajuraho Dance Festival takes place in front of this temple and Vishwanath temple. It also has beautiful entrances with majestic stone guarding its northern steps and royal masonry elephants taking care of the southern steps.
After that, we will visit Lakshmana Temple. The pretty temple flaunts a lintel over its entrance depicting the divine trinity of Hindu Lord Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu. Besides that, a statue of Goddess Lakshmi, the wife of Vishnu resides. Matangeshwara temple is also situated outside the premises of the Western group of temples. This Hindu Lord Shiva's temple enshrines eight-feet high lingam.
Lunch at around 13:30 Hrs at a restaurant. After lunch, we will visit Parsvanatha Temple, Adinatha Temple and Ghantai Temple situated in Eastern region. The Parsvanatha Jain temple has some intricate stone carvings. The sculptures on the northern outer wall of the temple are praiseworthy. It also endorses a throne facing the bull emblem which represents the first Tirthankara, Adinatha. Then we will visit Ghantai Temple. This temple has frescos, depicting the 16 dreams of the mother of Lord Mahavira at the time of his birth. A Jain goddess mounted on a winged Garuda followed is also present in the vicinity. Adinath temple, which is richly ornamented with delicate and pretty sculptures including Yakshis, is worth visiting. It was dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankara(saint), Adinath. Later visit Duladeo Temple and Charubhuja Temple situated in the southern zone.
